SENATOBIA – Scoreless at the half between Northwest and Southwest Tennessee, four second half goals in a 17-minute stretch provided an exciting finish that ended in a 2-2 double overtime draw.
Northwest moved to 3-5-1 on the year while Southwest moved to 4-3-1.
Juliane Alcantara's goal in the 66th minute broke the scoreless tie for the Lady Saluqis, with Alcantara scoring after a scramble in front of the net.
Northwest found the equalizer in the 77th minute from
Sydney Shelton, her first collegiate goal, to make it 1-1.
Landyn Hoover's extra effort near the corner flag led to a beautiful goal from Shelton who drilled it in the back left corner of the net from 20 yards.
Less than four minutes later,
Cheyenne Smith put the Lady Rangers on top 2-1 with her team-leading 10th goal of the year.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Southwest tied it at 2-2 only 2:06 later on
Caitlan Dew's goal. Katie Smith's shot was saved by
Angel Hailey and the ball fell right at Dew's feet, who nailed it home for the goal.
A barrage of Southwest shots over the next six minutes were either wide right or saved by Hailey to keep it 2-2 into overtime.
Neither team could find the golden goal in 20 extra minutes as the match ended in a draw.
Southwest outshot Northwest 36-9 for the match but was denied 16 times by Hailey between the posts.
Northwest will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. against St. Louis.
