JACKSON – Freshman
Joseph Hayes' coast-to-coast goal gave Northwest a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but it wouldn't hold up as Hinds rallied with three unanswered goals over the game's final 33 minutes to take a 3-1 win at Millsaps' Harper Davis Field on Tuesday.
Hinds improved to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the north while Northwest fell to 1-6 and 0-3 in division action.
The match was scoreless at the half, thanks in large part to
Tim Houston's big save on Gabriel Dos Santos' penalty kick. Northwest also had a goal called back on an offsides early in the first half.
Hayes' goal was a beautiful one in the 49th minute, as he fielded it on Northwest's defensive end and took it the distance to beat the keeper for his team-leading third goal of the year.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Hinds tied the match at 1-1 just 8:12 later on Andrew Klinck's goal that deflected off a Northwest defender and into the back of the net.
Minutes later, a foul in the box setup Guilherme De Sousa's penalty kick for a 2-1 Hinds lead.
Klinck netted his second of the match in the 82nd minute to put the finishing touches on a 3-1 Eagle victory.
Hinds outshot Northwest 22-8 for the match. The teams combined for 21 fouls and three yellow cards.
Northwest will welcome Holmes to Senatobia on Friday, Sept. 13 for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
