Scoring Burst Lifts Northwest Past Holmes

SENATOBIAEric Izaguirre, Joseph Hayes and Jose' Orduna all finished one goal shy of a hat trick on Friday afternoon as the Rangers downed Holmes 7-1.

Northwest improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in MACJC North competition, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-5 and 1-3 on the season.

Despite surrendering a Bennett Crain goal just 10 minutes into the match, Northwest turned up the aggressiveness for the remaining 35 minutes of the first half.

Izaguirre netted the tying goal for the Rangers in the 33rd minute, thanks to two quick passes from Parker Trawick and Isvi Torres. Later, Izaguirre totaled his third goal of the season and put the Rangers ahead for good in the 42nd minute.

After a quiet start to the second half, Hayes brought the Rangers back to life with his fourth career goal in the 60th minute, pushing the Northwest advantage to 3-1.

Hayes would again respond in the 74th minute, dishing in a pass from Fernando Brisman and making the lead even more impressive at 4-1.

Trawick got in on the action as well in the 79th minute, scoring his first goal of the season off a play from Izaguirre. Jose Orduna would then deliver some final parting shots, scoring back-to-back goals in the 80th and 81st minutes to seal the final at 7-1.

The Rangers' seven goals are the most scored in a match since an 8-0 victory at Copiah-Lincoln on August 26, 2016.

Northwest totaled a season-high of 21 shots against Holmes, 15 coming on goal. The Rangers also scored on five of their six total shots in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Tim Houston collected six saves in the win.

Northwest will take a week-long break from competition with the Rangers slated to resume competition against Oxford Emory on Saturday, Sept. 22. The neutral-site match will be held in Meridian and feature live stats through nwccrangers.com.
