SENATOBIA – Five Lady Rangers finished in double figures, led by
Abbreanna Miller's double-double, as Northwest cruised to a 104-72 sophomore night victory against Coahoma on Thursday.
Northwest improved to 13-8 (8-3 MACJC North) and scored 100-plus points for the first time since a 103-82 victory against Arkansas Baptist on Nov. 16, 2015. CCC fell to 2-18 and 0-10 in the division.
Trailing 9-8 in the early goings, Northwest broke out on a 9-0 run sparked by a three-pointer and a made free throw from
Kayla Bradley.
A pair of back-to-back three pointers from Coahoma's Walneika Holmes and Keyara Hinton dropped the margin back down to four, but Northwest would close the first quarter with nine straight points, six from
Astraea Moore, to lead 27-14.
Northwest led by double figures for the entirety of the second quarter, pushing its advantage to as many as 21 points and led 47-30 at halftime.
Northwest never looked back in the second half, swelling the lead above 20 points in the third quarter and then above 30 in the fourth period.
Brooke Walker's long ball with 1:53 left put the Lady Rangers above the century mark and provided the exclamation point on the night.
Miller led the Lady Rangers with 16 points and 14 rebounds, followed by 15 points from Bradley.
Chrissah Shaw and Mercades Ward combined for 14 points apiece, while Moore totaled 10.
Ciara Pettis flirted with a double-double of 11 assists and eight rebounds, despite being limited to just three points. Walker and
Destiny Gaylor added nine points off the bench.
Coahoma was paced by a 28-point effort by Holmes and a double-double from Lameka President (19 points, 11 rebounds).
Northwest shot 46 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Rangers also led in nearly every stat category, including bench points (42-3), points in the paint (56-24) and fast break points (14-0).
Next up for the Lady Rangers is a road trip to Itawamba on Feb. 22 to conclude the regular season. Tipoff from Fulton is slated for 6 p.m.
