Lady Rangers Fall in Tri-State Classic Matchups

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SENATOBIA – In its annual Tri-State Classic twinbill, the Northwest Lady Rangers fell just a little short against Snead State on Thursday and Mineral Area College on Friday, dropping a pair of 70-63 and 55-43 finals.

Northwest dropped to 2-4 on the season and will have a quick turnaround on Monday, Nov. 19 with a neutral site game against Baton Rouge in Moorhead.

In Thursday evening's opener against Snead State, the Lady Rangers trailed by as many as 15 before halftime, until narrowing the gap with a mini 6-0 run over the final two minutes to trail 39-30 at the break.

Northwest continued to pick up steam in the second half, remaining within single digits for the entirety of the third quarter, eventually cutting the deficit to 52-50 entering the fourth quarter.

Kayla Bradley would tie the contest with her jumper just 48 seconds into the final quarter and would give the Lady Rangers a one-point advantage off a pair of free throws less than a minute later.

Although Northwest led 56-53 with 7:43 to go, the Lady Parsons would respond with a 17-7 run that would span over the final seven minutes, pulling away for the 70-63 victory.

Bradley and Lindsay Hall finished with 17 points apiece, thanks in part to Hall's 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Freshman Mallory Russell was also a force on the boards, collecting 14 rebounds and six blocks.

Three players finished in double figures for Snead State, led by Tamia Willingham-King's 19 points.

In Friday's contest with Mineral Area, the Lady Rangers opened the contest with a quick 9-4 lead midway through the first quarter. The Lady Cardinals stormed back, however, to take an 18-12 lead entering the second quarter.

Mineral Area continued to find it's rhythm in the second quarter and outscored Northwest 15-8, pulling away for a 33-20 advantage at halftime.

Mineral Area found it hard to pull away in the second half, as Northwest continued to hang around. For every shot made by the Lady Rangers, though, the Lady Cardinals responded on their end of the floor and kept Northwest at bay, leading 45-32 after three quarters of action.

Despite the Lady Rangers' second half adjustments, Northwest was unable to stage a significant rally as Mineral Area came away with the 55-43 victory.

Hall was the only Lady Ranger in double digits, scoring 10 points, while Russell fielded a season-best of nine points in the losing effort.

Masyn McWilliams led all scorers with 16 points in the Lady Cardinal win.
