SENATOBIA – Northwest connected on a season-high 17 three-pointers and shot 60 percent from the floor to run away with a 123-88 win over Arkansas Baptist Tuesday night at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest improved to 9-1 on the year and 6-0 at home, handing the Buffaloes their worst loss in 19 all-time meetings against the Rangers.
The dynamic freshman duo of
Jitaurious Gordon and
Tremont Robinson combined for 41 points on 13 of 15 shooting, including 8 of 10 from downtown, and set the tone for a lopsided 35-point win.
Northwest hit 11 of 16 first-half three-pointers and shot 63 percent overall to take a commanding 66-36 lead at the half.
Northwest's bench got more involved the second half, with
Justin Flakes scoring 14,
Miles Washington adding 13 and
Joseph Coleman chipping in eight, as the lead ballooned to a game-high 45 points, 115-70, with 4:09 to play.
All 13 Rangers who saw the floor scored at least one basket on the night, with the 123 points scored the most in a single game since a 127-99 win over East Mississippi on Feb. 17, 2005.
Five Rangers finished in double figures, led by T. Robinson's 24, Gordon's 17, 14 each from
Alex Shepard and Flakes, and 13 from M. Washington.
Arkansas Baptist (3-11) finished with three players in double figures, led by Darious Elliott's 20 and a double-double from Nicolas Jones.
Northwest closed the night 46-of-77 from the floor, including 17-for-30 from downtown, with a season-high 33 assists. Three players had five or more dimes.
