Rangers Dominate in 99-75 Road Win at Coahoma

CLARKSDALE – Following a tough loss at No. 20 Holmes, Northwest rebounded in a big way on the road, playing one of its most complete games in a 99-75 victory at Coahoma Monday night.

Northwest improved to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the MACJC North Division. Coahoma dropped to 2-13 and 0-4 in the north with the loss.

Trailing briefly 6-5 in the early stages of the first half, the Rangers regained the advantage with a Therrell Gosier II layup and never looked back, leading by as much as 14 at one point.

Coahoma managed to slice the lead down to eight with under a minute remaining before halftime, but the Rangers responded with a free throw from Justin Flakes and a three-pointer from Jitaurious Gordon as time expired to take a 51-39 lead into the break.

There would be no second half slowdown for Northwest, as the Rangers led by double digits the rest of the way.

A layup and free throw from Gosier extended the lead to 20 less than five minutes into the second half and Northwest pushed the lead to its highest point at 29 late in the second half.

Coahoma drained a trio of three-pointers from Denori Berry and Tarquise Harris in the closing minutes to slightly dent the lead, but the Rangers still came away with a solid 24-point road victory.

Gordon led all scorers and finished just shy of a career-high, netting 21 points and four rebounds. Three other Rangers totaled double figures, led by 13 points and six assists from Flakes. Tremont Robinson and Alex Shepard scored 11 apiece, with Shepard matching a career-high six rebounds.

Northwest was also aided by 41 points off the bench, including eight points and three blocks from Joseph Coleman.

Harris and Berry led Coahoma with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Jaborris Frazier also came away with 13 boards.

Northwest will take a brief break from MACJC action on Thursday with ASU Mid-South coming to Howard Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on nwccrangers.com/watch.
