SENATOBIA – Paced by five players in double figures, Northwest remained unbeaten at home in a hard-fought, 98-86 victory against ASU Mid-South Thursday night.
Northwest improved to 13-2 overall with its 11th win by double digits, while ASU Mid-South fell to 14-5 on the season.
In a pretty heated and physical non-conference battle, the teams combined for 46 total fouls, five technical fouls and a pair of foul outs on the night.
Despite trailing by as much as eight points in the opening stages of the first half, the Rangers rallied back and took their first lead at 23-22 on a
Jitaurious Gordon layup with 9:19 left before halftime.
Northwest never trailed the rest of the way and closed the last three minutes of the half on a 16-4 run, pushing the lead to 56-37 at the break.
Although the Rangers led by as much as 23 points in the second half, the Greyhounds made things interesting with a 16-2 run that sliced the lead down to 82-73 with 7:29 left in regulation.
Nine points was as close as ASU Mid-South came to launching a comeback, however, as a three-pointer from Gordon and a layup from Alex Shepard pushed the Ranger lead back over double digits for the remainder of the contest.
Tremont Robinson led all scorers with 24 points, seven assists and seven steals. Gordon and
Therrell Gosier II added 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Shepard added 12 points.
Justin Flakes also contributed 11 points off the bench.
Radarius Washington also stuffed the stat column with seven points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.
Terrandus Smith and K.J. Patrick lead ASU Mid-South with 22 and 21 points.
