Rangers Suffer 8-2 Road Loss vs Southwest Mississippi

SUMMIT – Northwest took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Isvi Torres and Fleurit Madjitoloum in the 10th and 16th minutes but Southwest Mississippi came storming back with eight unanswered goals to defeat the Rangers 8-2 Saturday afternoon.

"Our guys played as hard as they could today despite a lot of injuries and a short-handed roster," head coach Charlie Baldwin said. "If we can get everyone back healthy, we can play some good soccer in the coming weeks."

Southwest stayed unbeaten on the year, improving to 3-0, while Northwest moved to 1-1.

The scoring frenzy for Southwest all happened between the 20th and 29th minutes, scoring four quick goals to take control of the match at 4-2.

Patrick Larsen's goal in the 21st minute knotted the game at 2-2 for the Bears and he'd add goals in the 29th and 47th minutes to complete his hat-trick.

Southwest tacked on four more goals in the second half to run away with an 8-2 win over the insufficient Rangers.

The Bears owned a 33-10 shot advantage, including 20-4 on goal. The final foul count was 14-8 in the Bears' favor.

Mario Lopez had five saves and three goals allowed in the start between the posts. Carson Tackett closed the final 66 minutes, finishing with seven saves and five goals allowed.

Northwest will look to bounce back on Tuesday, hosting Jones County at 3 p.m.
