Balanced Offensive Attack Lifts Northwest to 10-2 Win in Playoff Series Opener

SENATOBIA – All nine players in the Northwest lineup had at least one hit and Jarod Wright shined on the mound in his final game at Jim Miles Field as the Rangers took a 1-0 series lead in a best-of-3 with a 10-2 run-rule win in eight innings over Copiah-Lincoln.

Northwest improved to 30-17 overall, eclipsing 30 wins for the fifth time in the last seven seasons. Co-Lin fell to 20-26.

Game 2 of the Region 23 Best-of-3 series has been pushed back from 2 p.m. to a 7 p.m. start Friday night at Jim Miles Field.

Northwest jumped on top of Co-Lin early, taking advantage of four errors in the first five innings to take a 5-0 lead. Brody Catt's RBI-double got the scoring started in the second, plating Grant McMinn and then Brooks Boolos after a throwing error from right.

Spencer Cayten was hit-by-pitch, stole second and later scored on an error to make it 4-0 in the fifth before Boolos' RBI-double to right-center scored McMinn to make it 5-0.

Wright hung five zeros to start the game before allowing his first run in the sixth on a two-out RBI-single from Jaylyn Williams.

Northwest answered the single run with a pair in the bottom of the frame, using Zack Pope's RBI-double and Aaron Campbell's 27th career double to plate Pope.

With the Rangers leading 8-1 entering the eighth, Co-Lin loaded the bases with one out and plated its second run on an infield single. Still loaded with two outs, Nathan Harrison relieved Wright and worked back from a 3-0 count to get a 4-3 groundout to end the Wolfpack threat.

Northwest then ended it in the bottom of the frame, using Campbell's RBI-single and Cayten's chopper over the bag at third to score Campbell from second for the game-winner.

Boolos led the Rangers with a 3-for-4 afternoon, followed by Campbell and Catt with two hits apiece. Northwest out-hit Co-Lin 13-8.
