Northwest Downs Delta 90-85 to Sweep Season Series

SENATOBIA – Dakota Dailey knocked down all 10 of his free throw attempts in the second half to finish with a team-high 20 points and Brandon Cranford had his best night as a Ranger with 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting as the Rangers defeated Mississippi Delta 90-85 Monday night to sweep the season series.

Northwest improved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in the north, while MDCC dropped to 9-11 overall, 4-5 in division play.

Tied 40-40 at the half, five straight points from Keelin Jackson put the Rangers in front 45-44, and Northwest never surrendered the lead the final 18:46.

Northwest built its lead to as many as 13 in the half, busting it wide open with a 13-4 run thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Cranford, another from Jaylan Shelton and a big offensive rebound and put back by Therrell Gosier II

MDCC clawed back to within 82-81 with 2:01 left, as the final four minutes turned into a free throw shooting contest.

Northwest connected on 17-of-24 free throw attempts in the second half and MDCC hit all eight of its attempts down the stretch.

With the Rangers' lead trimmed to one, Dailey hit two big free throws and Cranford rattled in his fourth 3-pointer to extend the lead to 86-81 with 1:02 to play.

Jabarie Escoffery scored a career-high 29 points for MDCC and kept the Trojans in it late but was held off by standout second half performances from Dailey, Jackson and Cranford who combined for 37 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor and 13-of-16 aim from the free throw line.

Northwest shot 52 percent in the second half to finish at a 46 percent clip, while MDCC shot 43 percent.

Behind 20 from Dailey and 16 from Cranford, Jackson added 13 points, Shelton had 10 and Gosier had nine points and 12 rebounds.
