RAYMOND – A thrilling Saturday night match kicked off MACJC North Division play for Northwest, who left Hinds with a 2-2 double overtime draw against the Eagles.
Northwest (2-1-1, 0-0-1 north) got the scoring started in the 25th minute as
James Longmire's initial shot bounced back into the path of
David Raymundo, who knocked it for a 1-0 Ranger lead.
Hinds wasted no time responding, however, scoring less than a minute later on a Paxton Bounds goal off a Felipe Rosado bounce back, tying the contest at 1-1.
With the halftime break approaching,
Bryant Young connected with
Michael Ledbetter for his third goal of the season, giving the Rangers a 2-1 advantage.
Once again, however, Hinds had an answer, as Rosado found Sess Means for the tying goal in the 42nd minute.
Both teams had several opportunities to go ahead in the second half, but solid defense on both sides kept the match tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation.
The defensive effort continued for both teams in two, 10-minute overtime periods, with neither Hinds or Northwest able to score the golden goal.
Brandon Carrillo finished with eight saves for the Rangers, while Cesar Peterson ended with seven for Hinds.
The Eagles outshot Northwest 22-15, including a 10-9 advantage on goal.
Northwest will kickoff the home portion of its 2016 schedule with a north division match against East Central on Wednesday, Sept. 7. First kick is slated for 3 p.m. in Senatobia.
