SENATOBIA – New Albany native Kelsey Phillips signed a rodeo scholarship Tuesday with Northwest Mississippi Community College, second-year head coach Shelli Benton announced.

Phillips began competing in rodeo events at the young age of four and has earned numerous buckles and titles in barrel racing, pole bending and breakaway roping. Phillips qualified for the National Barrel Horse Association world championship and the International Barrel Racing Association national finals in 2012, and most recently, competed in the Tennessee High School Rodeo Association and won a reserve championship in barrel racing.

Phillips' other accomplishments include qualifying for the 2014 National High School rodeo and she was also a two-year member of the Bloomer Trailer High School rodeo team (2015-16). This year, she is ranked in the Top 10 in breakaway and barrel racing in the Tennessee High School Rodeo Association.

At Northwest, Phillips will compete in breakaway and barrel racing while pursuing an associate degree in business and marketing.
