Rangers Win High-Scoring Affair Against Tigers

CLARKSDALE – Sophomore Seth LeDay finished with a career-high 32 points and 14 rebounds and four other Rangers scored in double figures in a hard-fought 107-97 win at Coahoma Tuesday night.

Northwest improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the division while Coahoma dropped to 3-12 and 0-4. The Rangers have taken over first place in the north by half a game and have already matched their win total (11) from last season.

In what is always a high-scoring affair at The Pinnacle, the teams combined to make 24 threes off 64 attempts while both shooting around 50 percent.

Northwest had to weather the storm early as Da'Quan Forrest nailed four first-half 3-pointers to give CCC an early five-point lead. Northwest's Keelin Jackson, the hometown kid, matched Forrest with 11 points and helped the Rangers push back in front.

The Rangers rallied to take a nine-point lead at the half, 58-49, after shooting 56 percent from the field (18-for-32) and 40 percent from beyond the arc (8-for-20). Dre'Kalo Clayton scored 13 and LeDay, Mark Partee and Jackson had 11 apiece in the period.

The teams traded buckets most of the second half but it was the LeDay and Partee show the final 15 minutes. LeDay scored 21 of his career-high 32 and Partee had 12 of his career-high 23 in the second half as Northwest pulled away late for a 10-point win.

Eleven total players finished in double figures, five for Northwest and six for Coahoma.

The Rangers finished with a season-high 27 assists on 35 made field goals and won the battle on the boards and at the free throw line. Partee and Jackson finished with six apiece.

Northwest will step out of division play Thursday, playing host to ASU Mid-South at 7 p.m.
