Northwest Rolls to a 95-77 Victory over ASU Mid-South

SENATOBIA – Northwest jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and never looked back as they rolled to a 95-77 victory over ASU Mid-South Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.

Northwest improved to 12-4 overall, sweeping the season series over the Greyhounds, while Mid-South fell to 10-8.

Seth LeDay's windmill dunk for the Rangers' first basket set the tone early and Dre'Kalo Clayton's 3-pointer started a 13-0 run to put Northwest ahead by double figures just 3:52 into the game.

Northwest's lead continued to grow after forcing MSCC into 13 first-half turnovers and outscoring them 19-2. The lead ballooned to a game-high 44-17 with 2:11 to play in the period after Chris Cooper's fastbreak jumper rattled in.

The Rangers led 45-23 at half, with 28 of their points coming off the bench. Lewis Freeman scored 11 of his career-high 17 in the half, followed by Keelin Jackson with seven and Shelby McEwen with six.

MSCC never got within 14 the rest of the way but had a solid individual effort from Tasmania Jones who scored 17 of his game-high 20 in the second half to keep it respectable.

Ten different Rangers scored in the second half in a balanced 50-point scoring attack. Antonio Wilson hit three 3-pointers in a 1:42 stretch to push the lead out to 26 early in the period.

McEwen's breakaway dunk from just inside the free throw line with seven seconds left put the exclamation point on a lopsided 18-point Ranger victory.

Behind Freeman's 17 points, LeDay (13), Clayton (12) and Wilson (11) all scored in double figures. Mark Partee tied a career-high with eight assists and has 20 dimes his last three games.

Northwest will step back into conference play Monday, Jan. 25, playing host to EMCC (12-3, 2-3) at 7 p.m.
