SENATOBIA – Northwest wrapped up a stretch of four matches in five days on Saturday, dropping a 2-1 double overtime decision to Gulf Coast to finish the rigorous week 3-1 overall.
Northwest moved to 8-4-1 on the year after Saturday's tough loss but outscored its opponents 19-4 on the week after wins over Meridian (2-0) and Copiah-Lincoln (8-0, 8-2). The eight season wins are the most since 2004.
In Friday's 8-2 win over the Wolfpack, Northwest scored seven second half goals after the match was tied 1-1 at the half.
Six different Rangers scored, including
David Raymundo,
Jonathan Felix,
Lance Crabtree,
Bryant Young,
Jaylen Harvey and
Jacob King. Crabtree was credited with his fifth game-winner of the year.
Saturday's highly anticipated match between the Bulldogs (8-2) and Rangers did not disappoint, needing two overtimes to determine a winner.
Scoreless late into the match, Felix's goal off a
Cameron Casey assist gave Northwest a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute. But it was short-lived as James Beattie tied the match in the 76th minute off a penalty kick to force extra time.
Northwest had two opportunities in the first overtime, getting good lucks from Felix and Crabtree, but couldn't connect.
Jordan Parron then delivered the game-winner for MGCCC in the 108th minute to help the Bulldogs to their sixth straight win.
Northwest will host Southwest Mississippi on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. The teams tied 1-1 earlier this season in Summit.
