Rangers Earn 3-1 Victory Against Oxford College

SENATOBIA – Two second half goals, including a career first from James Longmire, helped the Northwest men's soccer team wrap up the weekend with a 3-1 win against Oxford College on Sunday.

Northwest improved to 4-2-1 on the season while Oxford moved to 2-2.

Within the first minute of the contest, freshman Victor Ruedas quickly put the Rangers on the board, scoring off a deflection of a header from David Raymundo. The goal was Ruedas' second of the season and gave Northwest an early 1-0 lead.

However, the Eagles broke even in the 23rd minute, following a corner kick with a goal from Alvin Ma, leaving the contest tied at 1-1 at the end of the first half.

Lance Crabtree broke things open for the Rangers in the second half, scoring on a penalty kick in the 50th minute for his team-leading seventh goal of the season (third game-winner) and giving the Rangers a 2-1 advantage. Less than a minute later, Longmire followed with a goal thanks off an assist from Bryant Young.

With the team's two second half goals, the Rangers continued their dominance in the final half, outscoring their opponents 17-3 so far this season.

Northwest will resume MACJC North Division play on Wednesday, Sept. 16 against Itawamba. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
