Strong Second Half Lifts Northwest over Jones County

SENATOBIA – A hat-trick from Lance Crabtree and two goals from Jonathan Felix helped lift Northwest to an impressive 6-1 victory against Jones County on Saturday afternoon.

Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Jonathan Felix found the net off a pass from Jaylen Harvey, earning his first goal of the season. The advantage held until the 40th minute when Jake Holland's penalty kick allowed Jones to enter the halftime break with a 1-1 tie.

Not long after the start of the second half, the freshman Crabtree began the Rangers' scoring marathon, taking Karim Mueller's rebound off the post in the 49th minute, allowing Northwest to regain a 2-1 lead. Six minutes later, Felix hit the jackpot again, extending the Ranger lead up to 3-1.

The Rangers would tack on two more in the span of 20 minutes, as Crabtree netted two more goals unassisted, earning his first career hattrick and extending the Northwest lead to a comfortable 5-1 margin. Harvey would then give the Rangers a final parting shot in the 81st minute, ending the scoring at 6-1.

Sophomore keeper Matthew Williams earned three saves on the day, while Jones County's Braxton Taylor collected seven stops, giving up all six of Northwest's goals.

Northwest outshot Jones County 28-9 on the day and owned a 13-4 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Northwest will return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m., playing host to south division opponent Meridian.
