SENATOBIA – Redshirt freshman center
Aspriona Gilbert has signed a national letter of intent to play for head basketball coach Craig Roden and Delta State University her final three seasons.
In her lone season in Senatobia, Gilbert had a team-best 13 double-doubles and averaged 17.7 points and 8.6 rebounds-per-game, leading the Lady Rangers in scoring in 18 of 26 contests. Her .702 field goal percentage set a new Northwest single-season record and also led the NJCAA.
"Delta State was small enough to where I would know everyone but not too small where I wouldn't feel comfortable," Gilbert said. "I feel like I can be myself there and it was the place for me. I hope I can be a leader for the program and do whatever I can to help the team win."
Gilbert was named Second Team All-MACJC, NJCAA All-Region 23 and to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Tournament Team. She was also a two-time MACJC Player of the Week selection.
The Myrtle High School product, by way of Austin Peay, scored 20 or more in 10 games, including a career-high 29, twice, against Holmes and Mississippi Delta. She also shot 71 percent from the free throw line and added 24 assists, 22 blocks and 16 steals in 26 starts.
Northwest finished the 2014-15 season 19-7 overall, runner-up in the north division, and appeared in both the state and region tournaments (semifinal appearance).
