BATESVILLE – Northwest out-hit Mississippi Delta 25-4 on the day with 11 extra-base hits to sweep a softball doubleheader by 4-0 and 12-1 (6 inn.) finals at South Panola High School.
Northwest ran its win streak out to nine games with the sweep while Delta remained winless on the season at 0-18.
(Game 1)
Hanna Hunter led off the game with a triple and came around to score a batter later on a balk to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead after one.
The one-run lead would hold true into the seventh inning when Northwest added three runs to pull away 4-0.
Janie Turner singled and scored off an error, Hunter followed with an RBI-single and
Micalah Beall added an RBI-single.
Beall, who finished the game with a career-high 10 strikeouts, was two outs away from a no-hitter before Kayla Atkinson's bloop single into left-center broke up the no-hit bid. She allowed just the one hit to earn her first win of the year and first complete game.
Northwest finished with 10 hits, led by Hunter, who was 3-for-4, and Turner who was a career-high 3-for-3.
(Game 2) After a scoreless first inning, Northwest scored six runs over the next three innings to pull ahead 6-0 and capped off a 12-1 run-rule win with six runs alone in the sixth.
Drennan Nemnich's sac fly put the Rangers on the board in the second before Hunter's RBI-double and Beall's two-run double in the third made it 4-0.
Northwest put the game well out of reach with six runs off five hits in the sixth, highlighted by RBIs from
Erin Claire Stegall,
Rae Drewrey, Turner,
Olivia Owen and Nemnich.
Delta's lone run came in the fifth, with Nikki Tabat's RBI-single scoring pinch runner Aerial Welton.
Eleven different Rangers had a hit in the win, with Stegall finishing 3-for-3.
Brittany Rochelle was 2-for-2, extending her career-long hit streak to 11 games.
Ashton Needham scattered three hits, one run and seven strikeouts in five innings.
Peyton Rico closed it out in the sixth.
Northwest will host Itawamba on Wednesday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
