FULTON – In a game that featured 10 ties and 11 lead changes, it was Northwest's defensive intensity in the second half that helped the Rangers pull away late in a 79-67 win.
Northwest improved to 9-2 overall (3-0 road) and 2-0 in the division as
Bubba Skelton tied Cat Robbins as the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with victory No. 251. ICC fell to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in division play.
Four Ranger starters finished in double figures, paced by Seth Leday's 25 points.
Tyrin Jones added 12 and both
Dre'Kalo Clayton and
Mark Partee chipped in 11.
The turning point of the game came at the 4:53-mark of the first half. Clayton's 3-pointer at the top of the arc put Northwest ahead 32-30 and they wouldn't trail the rest of the night.
Northwest led 41-37 at the break and quickly stretched its lead to 57-44 midway through the second half.
LeDay took over in the second half, scoring 16 of his game-high 25 and also swatting a pair of shots. He added three more dunks on the night to pull his season total to 29.
Northwest held ICC to 30 percent shooting in the half (0-for-12 from 3pt) and also forced seven turnovers and blocked four shots. The Rangers finished at 45 percent from the floor and outscored ICC 20-6 in second-chance points.
Northwest returns to action on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. at Arkansas Baptist.
