Buffaloes Race Past Rangers with Huge Second Half

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Riding a four-game winning streak into Little Rock Wednesday night, the Northwest men's basketball team suffered the same fate as the Lady Rangers with a poor shooting second half to drop a 92-81 decision to Arkansas Baptist.

ABC improved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 at home while Northwest fell to 9-3. The teams split the season series.

The game featured 12 lead changes in the first half, with the Rangers scoring 27 of the final 41 points to take a 39-33 lead.

Northwest shot 43 percent in the half while holding ABC to 27 percent. Ten different Rangers scored in the period, led by Seth LeDay with nine and Antonio Wilson with eight.

The second half, however, belonged to ABC as they put on a shooting clinic rarely seen. The Buffaloes opened the second half on an 18-0 run to take a 51-41 lead with 14:34 to play and never looked back.

At one point of the second half, ABC was shooting 75 percent, connecting on 15-of-20 shots from the floor. They would finish the period at 60 percent against 35 percent for the Rangers.

Anthony Black, Ruston Hayward and Latron Thomas combined to score 39 points in the second half on 10-of-19 shooting.

Down by 22 with 9:50 to play, Isaiah Austin came off the bench to score 15 points in 10 minutes and helped Northwest make it respectable late.

The game turned extremely emotional and a little physical at times in the second half with technical fouls handed out left and right. Six techs were handed out all together, including an ejection to Kevin Grayer.

Austin's 15 points led the way for Northwest, followed by LeDay with 13 and Wilson and Mark Partee with nine.

Northwest will return to division play on Tuesday, Jan. 12, traveling to rival Northeast for a 7:30 tipoff.
