RIDGELAND –
Lance Crabtree scored a pair of goals and
Bryant Young added another as Northwest blanked Holmes 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Freedom Ridge Park to sweep the season series over the Bulldogs.
Northwest improved to 10-4-1 overall (3-2 north), its third 10-win season in program history and first since 2003. Holmes fell to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in division play.
Coming off back-to-back MACJC Offensive Player of the Week honors, Crabtree continued his goal-scoring tear with two more on Tuesday. His goal in the 6th minute marked his seventh game-winner of the year, missing a penalty kick attempt but getting the rebound from the keeper and blasting into the back of the net.
Crabtree's second goal of the match came in the 56th minute off a header after a perfectly executed corner kick into the box from
Jacob King.
Young capped the scoring in the 68th minute in unorthodox fashion. Young jumped into the air and turned his back towards Holmes goalkeeper Timothy Nations who kicked the ball into Young's back and then it bounced into the net.
Matthew Williams posted his fifth clean sheet of the year with four saves.
Northwest will host East Central on Friday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. The Warriors won 2-1 earlier this season in Decatur.
