SENATOBIA – A pair of second half goals from Jacob Johnson and Devon Pitts helped visiting East Central shutout Northwest on Friday afternoon, 2-0, in north division action.
East Central swept the season series with the win and improved to 5-9-1 overall and 2-3-1 in division play. Northwest fell to 10-5-1 overall and 3-3 in the north.
Scoreless at the half, the Warriors broke the tie in the 59th minute after a foul in the box. Johnson stepped up and drilled a penalty kick for the eventual game-winner. Just 4:22 later, Pitts got his own rebound after a
Matthew Williams save and connected for a 2-0 lead.
ECCC owned a slight 17-14 shot advantage but Northwest had several opportunities around the 13-minute mark of the first half with
Bryant Young and
Lance Crabtree.
Jakob Williams had seven saves to post a shutout for ECCC against six for Williams, who allowed two goals.
Northwest will try and rebound next Friday, Oct. 16 at Itawamba. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Fulton.
