ARLINGTON, Texas – Former Ranger and South Alabama senior defensive tackle Jerome McClain has earned an invitation to play in the Inaugural College Gridiron Showcase.
The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Maverick Stadium on the Texas-Arlington campus, with McClain set to be a member of the Wranglers squad that will be coached by former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl tight end Doug Cosbie.
A 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive lineman who originally hails from Pensacola, Fla., McClain was a Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in the fall after posting a career-best 50 total tackles while helping the Jaguars to their first-ever postseason bowl appearance. McClain was credited with three stops for loss including 2.5, a pair of quarterback hurries and he also recovered a fumble against Mississippi State.
Last year he recorded a career-high eight tackles in the regular-season finale against Navy — surpassing his previous high of six set against the Bulldogs in USA's home opener — while starting all 13 contests.
McClain was credited with 84 stops including 7.5 for a loss of 33 yards in two seasons with the program, and he is tied for ninth on the school's career record list with 5.5 sacks.
McClain played the 2011-12 seasons in Senatobia for head coach Ricky Woods, recording 79 tackles, 13.0 tackles-for-loss, 7.0 sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He also added 16 quarterback hurries in 19 career games played.
A 2012 MACJC First Team All-State selection, McClain helped the Rangers to their first bowl victory in 20 years and earned Brazos Valley Bowl Defensive MVP honors.
