Men's Tennis Defeats A Fifth Ranked Team

SENATOBIA – Playing its final home match of the spring season on Wednesday at The ROC, the Northwest men's tennis team knocked off 25th-ranked East Central 6-3. 

Prior to first serve of the match, the two teams had to continue a previously suspended match from March 17 in Decatur. Northwest led that 5-0 and went on to win 7-2 to wrap up two wins in one day. 

Max Stanford/Jon Morgan Bell won a tie-break at No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (8-6) to give the Rangers a sweep for an early 3-0 advantage. 

The teams split singles play, with Northwest winning at No.'s 1, 2 and 4 behind Stanford, Joseph Shidler and Weldon Meng and East Central taking wins at No.'s 3, 5 and 6. 

Northwest is now 9-3 on the year with five wins over ranked teams and will close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. in Booneville.
