Don Edwards Grabs 400th win at Northwest

Box Score BOONEVILLE – Northwest rallied from a 17-point second half deficit at Northeast Monday night to knock off the Lady Tigers 71-66 and give longtime head coach Don Edwards his 400th career victory. 

Northwest won its third straight overall to improve to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the north division, while Northeast dropped to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in the division. The Lady Rangers also swept the season series.

Trailing 42-27 at the break, Northwest shot 52 percent in the second half but didn't make its run until the game's final 10 minutes.

Down 60-45, the Lady Rangers ran off eight straight points after a steal by Tenesha Woods, ensuing layup from Carshava Sutton and back-to-back 3-pointers from Anna Rosenbaum and Woods.

Northeast was held scoreless for an 8:45 span as Northwest rallied for an 18-2 run to pull ahead 63-62. 

Teresa Mays put the Lady Tigers back in front with 1:41 to play before Sutton's layup off Halle Knowles' ninth assist of the game put Northwest up for good. The Lady Rangers scored the game's final six points. 

Sutton pumped in her third straight double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Northwest, followed by 14 from Woods and 13 points and nine assists from Knowles.   

Northeast was paced by Antionette Riddle with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. 

Northwest shot 46 percent for the game against 44 percent for the Lady Tigers. 

The Lady Rangers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 6 at Itawamba. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Fulton.
