Box Score SENATOBIA – Despite a sixth consecutive double-double from sophomore
Carshava Sutton, visiting East Mississippi used 36 bench points and enjoyed a 15-rebound advantage to edge Northwest 72-64 in the Lady Rangers' regular season home finale.
East Mississippi improved to 15-7 overall and 10-1 in the north and captured the division title with the victory. Northwest dropped to 12-7 overall and 6-5 in the north. Both teams will play in next week's MACJC Tournament which appears to be in Fulton.
Northwest stayed close in the first half thanks to the Lions getting in foul trouble and led 19-18 at the 7:00 mark.
But EMCC went to its bench and got 18 points from Jaylen Cox, Savannah Kimmons and Brittany Brown who went a combined 8-for-13, and led 32-26 at the break.
Northwest shot just 25 percent in the period against 41 percent from the Lady Lions.
It was all EMCC in the second half as the Rangers' deficit grew to double figures. Northwest got no closer than four, 35-31, in the opening minutes before the Lady Lions broke it open with 14-5 run.
Sutton scored 18 of her game-high 31 in the second half, scoring 10 at the charity stripe, and got her 10th rebound with under 30 seconds to play for her sixth straight double-double and second 30 point outing in three games.
Kristina Mays added eight and
Halle Knowles and
Tenesha Woods added seven apiece.
EMCC had four scorers in double figures, paced by 14 from Charmane Tims, 13 from Savannah Kimmons and 12 points, 10 assists and six rebounds from Takera Mitchell.
Northwest will close out the regular season on Thursday at Holmes, a 6 p.m. tipoff in Goodman.
