Lady Indians Hold off Lady Rangers, 71-64

Box Score SENATOBIA – Northwest rallied from a 14-point deficit and held visiting Itawamba without a field goal the final 5:41 but wasn't able to pull ahead on the scoreboard as they fell 71-64 Monday night at Howard Coliseum.

Itawamba improved to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the north division while snapping the Lady Rangers' five-game winning streak. Northwest dropped to 8-3 overall and 2-1, just its third home loss in their last 17 games.

Tied at 11-11 at the 13:41-mark of the first half, Itawamba went on a 16-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at 27-13. Lytia Coleman hit a trey to start the run which was ended by a Latoya Collins 3-pointer.

But Northwest would respond the final 7 minutes of the half to pull within 37-36 at the break, forcing eight ICC turnovers and using baskets by five different Lady Rangers. Kristina Mays hit a driving layup as the halftime horn sounded off a Jasmine Edwards steal and assist.

Anna Rosenbaum hit a 3-pointer to give Northwest a 41-39 lead minutes into the second half and a pair of Leah Lytle free throws made it a four point lead at the 16:11-mark, the Lady Rangers' largest of the night.

The lead was short-lived, however, as ICC went on a 20-6 run the ensuing 7:09 to put Northwest away.

The Lady Rangers got within three, 61-58, with 7:59 to play, but wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way.

Behind Tekevanna Young's game-high 18 points, Carshava Sutton followed with 17 points and seven rebounds, Lytle added seven and both Mays and Rosenbaum finished with six.

ICC was paced by 17 points from Jayla Chills and 10 apiece from Justice Martin and Collins.

Northwest will return to the court next Tues., Jan. 21 at Mississippi Delta. The game tips at 6 p.m. in Moorhead.
