Gnande Zleh struck a brilliant shot in the left corner of the goal with 26 seconds remaining and Northwest opened north division play on Friday afternoon with a thrilling, 2-1 win at Holmes.
Northwest stayed unbeaten on the year at 2-0-1 while Holmes dropped its first of the year and went to 4-1. The Bulldogs had won the previous three meetings and six of the last eight.
Holmes struck first in the 17th minute when Ryan Hudson delivered a great ball off a free kick into the box where Jimmy Doonan headed it in for the score.
Aaron Terrazas and the Rangers drew even at 1-1 just 8:10 later, as the sophomore netted his team-leading third goal of the season.
The score stayed the same the ensuing 65 minutes until Zleh struck a beautiful shot in the left corner of the goal that completely fooled Holmes goalkeeper, Michael Wood.
Taylor Thevenot picked up four saves on the afternoon in earning the win.
An always physical matchup, the match saw a combined 30 fouls and six yellow cards.
Northwest will look to stay unbeaten on the year next Friday, Sept. 13 when they travel to Hinds.
