Northwest Boasts Strong Performance at Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – In Northwest's fourth event of the fall rodeo season, the Ranger men had their best outing of the season with 200 points and a fourth place finish while a pair of Ranger women also completed strong outings.

"I was really pleased with everyone's performance this past weekend," third-year head coach Bruce Lee said. "We had some great individual efforts from our guys and girls and continue to see improvement each week. Hopefully we can close the fall out strong."

Sophomore Brian Dowdy won the bull riding event with 79 points followed by a third place finish from freshman Michael Crenshaw who scored 58 points. It marked the third time in four events that a Ranger rider won the bull riding event.

In a field of 115 barrel racers, freshman Rachel Speltz finished 10th and qualified Saturday night for the finals. Freshman Lauren Sanders placed 11th in the barrel racing and 13th in goat tying but didn't make it to the finals.

"Barrel racing is the most competitive event in the Ozark Region," Lee said. "I'd even say that it's more competitive than professional events. You've got girls from 15-18 colleges and over a 30-state region. To be able to place is saying a whole lot and something you have to work for."

Northwest will close out the fall rodeo season Nov. 17-18 at Troy University in Troy, Ala.
