Northwest Releases 2011-12 Basketball Schedule

SENATOBIA – Northwest has released its 2011-12 basketball schedule, complete with a total of 11 home games and 12 road contests with the women to tipoff each doubleheader.

Both Ranger basketball teams finished a few games shy of a state playoff appearance last season, as the Lady Rangers finished 9-12 overall and 5-6 in MACJC North Division play, while the Ranger men finished 9-13 overall and 3-8 in the division.

Led by women's head coach Don Edwards in his 25th season and men's coach Jimmy Adams in his third season, Northwest will open this year's campaign with two home games on Nov. 1 against Southwest Mississippi and Nov. 8 against Mid-South (Ark.).

An extended five-game road stretch over the last three weeks of November kicks off with games at Hinds and Copiah-Lincoln, followed by the Southwest Coca-Cola Classic in Summit on Nov. 21-22. The trip concludes with a rematch against Mid-South in Marion, Ark., on Nov. 29.

Northwest will then return to Howard Coliseum on Dec. 1 and play four of its next five doubleheaders in Senatobia, beginning with the conference-opener against Northeast. A road contest at East Mississippi on Dec. 5 will wrap up competition for 2011 and open a 36-day layoff for the Rangers over Christmas Break and into the New Year.

Matchups with Columbia State (Jan. 10), Arkansas Baptist (Jan. 12) and East Central (Jan. 17) open 2012 in Senatobia before a second road division game at Itawamba on Jan. 19.

The final 10 games of the regular season schedule will alternate home and away, beginning with Holmes on Jan. 23 in Senatobia and ending at Mississippi Delta on Feb. 23.
