WEST POINT – On the third stop of the Ozark Region's spring rodeo schedule at Eagle Ranch, the Northwest rodeo teams placed third in the women's division and eighth in the men's competition hosted this past weekend by East Mississippi.
The women's team scored 170 total points and were just 10 shy of second place. The men closed with 100 points to finish in a three-way tie for eighth place.
Kindyl Scruggs continued her solid sophomore campaign by finishing second in the long-go round and first in the short-go in barrel racing. Her first place finish and combined time of 33.68 seconds just edged out Hope Shelton of Southern Arkansas who finished with a time of 33.83.
Scruggs' overall lead is now 165 points over Murray State's Taylor Smith in the Ozark Region with two events left this spring, and she's in great position to make the CNFR in Wyoming this summer.
Sophomore
Michael Crenshaw placed fourth in bull riding and increased his lead in the region over Missouri Valley's Travis Smith by 145 points.
Jake Keith is on the outside looking in, but still has a shot to make nationals. He currently ranks fourth.
Northwest will host its annual event next weekend, April 4-6, at the Multipurpose Arena in Senatobia.
Tickets are on sale now at the NWCC Foundation Office, the Tate County Co-Op and Tobie Town Music in Senatobia. General admission is $10 at the gate and $8 in advance, while children six and under are free of charge with a paid adult.
