MONTICELLO, Ark. – In the second rodeo event of the spring season hosted by UA-Monticello, both teams had great weekends as the women tied for third and the men finished fifth in the final standings.
Led by sophomores Kindyl Scruggs and Racheal Speltz in barrel racing, the women racked up 190 total points. Scruggs' combined time of 29.81 seconds in two runs in the short-go helped her take first while Speltz's time of 31.45 placed her in a tie for sixth.
Scruggs' performance moved her from sixth up to second in the Ozark Region standings with 415 total points and she's now just five points shy of the leader, Taylor Smith, from Murray State.
The Ranger men continued their impressive showing in bull riding, with sophomores Jake Keith (151 points) and Michael Crenshaw (78 points) placing second and fourth, respectively.
With their rides this weekend, Crenshaw and Keith are now 1-2 in the region standings, while Ben Cullum currently sits in a tie for eighth place.
The rodeo team will return to action March 21-23 at the East Mississippi rodeo in West Point.
