SENATOBIA – For the second time in as many meetings against Northeast, the free throw line was unkind to Northwest and proved to be the difference in a 73-69 loss Monday night. | Watch Replay
Northeast swept the season series with the win and has now won the last six meetings overall. The Lady Tigers improved to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the north while Northwest dropped to 14-5 overall and 5-3.
The game featured 12 ties and 18 lead changes and was every bit of the battle expected between two of the top teams in the north division.
Northeast's largest lead of the night was eight points while Northwest led by as many as five.
With six ties in the final six minutes, Northeast found the go-ahead free throws by Angelia Allen with 1:46 to play and took a 71-68 lead in the waning seconds.
Northwest had two chances to tie the game in the final 26 seconds, but Leah Lytle missed her final two free throws after being fouled behind the arc and Tiesha Tunstall's 3-pointer from the left wing fell short.
Neither team shot the ball well for the game, with Northeast connecting on 37 percent and Northwest just 32 percent – its fourth-worst shooting effort of the season.
Northeast won the game from the charity stripe by hitting 32 of 43 attempts while Northwest hit just 18 of 32. In the two games combined against the Lady Tigers, Northwest missed a total of 40 free throws.
Shaquilla Isom posted her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Tunstall followed with 13 points, Nikki McChristian added 10 and Monique Biggins had nine. Brittani Biggins added a career-high three blocks to go along with five points and four rebounds.
Northeast was paced by 21 points from Allen, 19 from LaTonya Gadison and 14 from Antoinette Riddle. Talisa Boyd added a game-high 11 rebounds off the bench.
Northwest will try and regroup on Thursday, welcoming Itawamba (13-6, 7-1 north) to Senatobia for a 5 p.m. tipoff. Thursday night's game will be our PinkZone game and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
