JACKSON – Northwest had two players selected to the 2013 MACJC All-State Football Team, the league office announced early Tuesday morning.
Sophomore wide receiver
D'Montrise Swinney earned first team recognition, while freshman left tackle
Samuel Edmondson was named to the second team.
Swinney (Itta Bena/Leflore County) was an all-state honorable mention as a freshman and had a breakout sophomore campaign to earn first team accolades. He led the team with 55 catches for 715 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 13 yards-per-catch and 79.4 yards-per-game. At the end of the regular season, his 55 catches ranked second in the MACJC and tied for sixth in the NJCAA.
Swinney ends his Ranger career sixth all-time in receptions (80) and ninth in receiving yards (1,143).
Edmondson (Fairview, Tenn./Fairview) started in all nine games at left tackle and anchored an offensive line that was made up of all freshmen. Edmondson and the unit helped pave the way for
Damian Baker to eclipse 2,000 yards rushing in his career, making him the fifth player in school history to reach the milestone.
Northwest did not have an All-Region 23 selection, snapping a 17-year streak of at least one player on the list.
