JACKSON, Tenn. – Sophomore Tiesha Tunstall scored a season-high 20 points off the bench to lead all scorers and sophomore Nikki McChristian chipped in her team-leading third double-double of the year as Northwest rolled to a 74-62 road win over Jackson State CC Thursday night. | Final Box
Northwest improved to 10-3 overall and became the first team in the MACJC North to hit the 10-win plateau, while Jackson State fell to 1-12 at the halfway point of the season.
Northwest trailed just once in the game in the opening 3 minutes, and rallied with an 18-4 run to end the half to take a 38-23 advantage.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Bethany Lytle to open the second half quickly stretched the Lady Ranger lead to 20 points as they connected on six of their first 10 shots of the period.
Jackson State used the hot shooting hand of Sam Smith to climb back within striking distance, 49-36, at the 13-minute mark, with the sophomore scoring 16 of her team-high 19 points in the second half.
Northwest however countered with an 11-0 run over the next 4:58 and led by a game-high 24 points with 8:45 to play. McChristian scored five straight points during the run, while Jearica McBride added a pair of baskets and Tunstall scored a driving layup.
Jackson State would score 23 of the game's final 34 points to make the final margin 74-62, as Smith, Lee Ann Baggett and Christy Steele all banged in 3-pointers.
Northwest owned a 41-36 edge on the glass and ended the night shooting 47 percent from the floor and 45 percent (9 of 20) from beyond the arc. The Lady Rangers also picked up 23 assists on 29 field goals.
Behind Tunstall's 20 points on 8 of 12 aim, Shaq Isom added 16 points and nine rebounds and McChristian pumped in 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Northwest will travel to Itawamba (9-5, 3-0 north) on Saturday, Jan. 19 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
