Northwest Tops ECCC 72-50, Matches Last Season's Win Total

SENATOBIA – Northwest had 10 players in the scoring column and led from start to finish as they cruised to a 72-50 victory over East Central Saturday afternoon at Howard Coliseum.

Northwest improved to 8-2 overall and has already matched last season's win total with 13 regular season games remaining. East Central fell to 4-7 on the season.

Monique Biggins' layup just 3 seconds into the game gave Northwest the lead for good as they won the opening tip and never looked back.

Northwest scored 23 of the game's first 30 points and quickly built a double figure lead that would not be threatened the final 30 minutes of regulation. The Lady Rangers led 33-22 at the half.

A 28-7 run to open the second half built the lead to a game-high 61-29 with 10:54 left.

Northwest outscored a thin East Central bench 32-12 on the night and capitalized off 36 Lady Warrior turnovers that led to 33 points on the opposite end.

Tiesha Tunstall led Northwest with 16 points off the bench on 7 of 17 shooting while Carshava Sutton posted a career-best 13 rebounds to go with seven points, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Xzandra Dowd scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second half for East Central, adding 11 boards for a double-double. Reneisha Evans had seven points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

Neither team shot the ball exceptionally well, with Northwest slightly ahead 31-29 percent.

Northwest will return to action after the holiday break, traveling to Mid-South on Friday, Jan. 4.
