SENATOBIA – The north division leading Holmes Lady Bulldogs rolled into Senatobia Monday night with an unblemished league record and got a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore Louise Collins to stay perfect in a 66-53 win over Northwest.
Holmes improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the north while the Lady Rangers dropped a sixth-straight in falling to 6-7 overall and 0-4 in the division.
Northwest darted out to an early 10-4 lead in the game's opening 4:05, turning the Lady Bulldogs over three times and using a pair of 3-pointers from Tiesha Tunstall and Shaquilla Isom.
Holmes chipped away at the Northwest lead and gained its first lead at 13-12 after a 9-2 run.
The teams exchanged leads the next four minutes before Holmes broke the game open with an 11-0 run.
Collins finished with a monster first half for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 18 points and pulling down seven boards, as the visitors led 32-23 at the break.
Holmes quickly stretched its lead out to double figures, 39-27, at the 16:35 mark in the second half, using a 3-pointer from Keirra Gilmore and baskets from Amber Clay and Collins.
Still trailing by 13 with 9:37 left in the half, Northwest got four consecutive points from Monique Biggins and a bucket from Sherneal Thompson to trim the lead to 51-44.
But Holmes would hold off the Lady Rangers the rest of the way and keep a decent distance as they rolled to an eighth consecutive victory overall.
Neither team shot the ball well, with Holmes finishing at 36 percent against 30 percent from Northwest.
Northwest finished with three scorers in double figures, led by Isom's 13 points and followed by 11 from Erica Turner and 10 from Brittany Patton. Turner also added nine rebounds and three blocks, while Jearica McBride contributed six points and six rebounds in 12 tough minutes of the bench.
Northwest will hit the road Thursday, traveling to Coahoma (7-7, 0-4 north) for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
