SENATOBIA – Northwest led for the opening 34 minutes Thursday night against visiting Arkansas Baptist, but was held scoreless the final 4:07 and surrendered the go-ahead layp to Caitlyn Williams with 1:20 remaining as Lady Buffaloes left Senatobia with a 59-58 win.
Arkansas Baptist improved to 12-8 on the year while Northwest dropped its fourth-straight game overall in falling to 6-5.
Northwest scored the first six points of the game and built an early 17-10 lead, thanks to a trio of 3-pointers from Erica Turner, Shaquilla Isom and Shermeka Lewis.
The Lady Rangers pushed their first half lead to as many as eight, 30-22, with 6:13 remaining and would take a 38-35 lead into the break.
Northwest shot 43 percent in the opening period against 39 percent shooting for Arkansas Baptist.
The Lady Buffaloes hung around within 2-3 points most of the second half, but could only rally to tie the game on a pair of occasions at 47-all and 49-all. Finally Arkansas Baptist broke through with its first lead of the game, 54-52 with 6:00 remaining, thanks to an Ashley Qualls layup and free throw.
Turner's second 3-pointer of the night gave Northwest back the lead at 58-56 with 4:07 remaining, but the Lady Rangers would be held scoreless the rest of the way.
Williams' layup minutes later would give Arkansas Baptist the go-ahead bucket, 59-58. Northwest had one last chance as time expired, with Sherneal Thompson's jumper from the baseline rattling in-and-out.
Monique Biggins and Isom each had 12 points for Northwest, with Biggins adding 11 boards for her eighth double-double of the year. Turner added nine points and a career-high 10 assists. Arkansas Baptist was led by Qualls' 11 points, as the Lady Buffaloes outscored the Northwest bench 32-14 on the night.
Northwest will close out a three-game homestand on Tuesday night against East Central, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. from Howard Coliseum.
