ELLISVILLE – The host Jones County Bobcats used a Northwest own goal in the 70th minute to steal a 2-1 win Tuesday afternoon and sweep the season series over the Rangers.
Jones County won its sixth straight over Northwest overall in improving to 5-3-2, while the Rangers dropped to 4-4-1 with the loss – their third one-goal loss of the season.
Jones' Dusty Pittman broke a scoreless tie in the 32nd minute, sending a shot past John Denton.
The lead would hold true until the 62nd minute when Northwest's Peyton Smith scored his first collegiate goal and knotted the match at 1-1.
The difference in the match, however, came in the 70th minute. Jones sailed a cross into the box where a Ranger defender and Denton each went to try and clear the ball, but inadvertently knocked it into their own net to give Jones the 2-1 lead and eventual win.
Northwest will continue its four-match road swing on Saturday, Oct. 1, traveling to Southwest Mississippi for non-divisional contest. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. from Summit.
