DECATUR, ALA. - As the result of an exceptional third round at the Calhoun Men's Spring Classic at Burning Tree Country Club, the Northwest Mississippi Community College men's golf finished ninth out of 14 teams, moving up one spot from their day one finish.
NWCC shot 47-over as a team. Although that is a dip from the 40-over the team shot their last time out at the Lou Hart Invitational, it is still their second best score of the spring season and third best score overall.
All four of the Rangers whose scores counted towards the team total placed well within the top 50 with two members of the team placing within the top 25.
The highest placing member of the Northwest team was freshman Braden Beverage, who finished in 16th place. In the first round on the first day of competition, Beverage shot four-over, including a birdie on holes seven and thirteen.
During the second round on the first day, Beverage excelled and only shot one-over. He accomplished this by carding four birdies in the round. The birdies came on holes two, seven, ten, and fourteen. In the third round, Beverage once again hit a pair of birdies. This time the birdies came one holes eight and thirteen. Beverage had at least two birdies in all three rounds of competition.
Behind Beverage, Caesar Ingendorf shot 10-over and placed 25th. Ingendorf had a tough first round, shooting eight-over with six bogies and one double bogey. However, in his next two rounds, Ingendorf greatly improved his score and moved up ten places on the leaderboard.
In the second round, Ingendorf hit two birdies on holes two and five. This allowed him to shoot only two-over, eight strokes less than his first round score. Ingendorf was exceptional in the last round of competition, shooting even with two birdies on holes one and three and only shooting above par on two holes.
Like Ingendorf, Fadi Burnet had a tough first round shooting 13-over. However, in the second round, Burnet only hit two-over with birdies on holes seven, nine, thirteen, and sixteen. Burnet continued his momentum in the third round and shot even-par with birdies on holes two and nine.
Placing 42nd, the last Ranger that counted towards the team score was freshman Cole Elander. Elander was consistent across the two days of competition shooting five-over in the first round and six-over in rounds two and three.
Rounding out the scoring team, Landon Masterson shot 29-over across the three rounds. He did end the tournament on a positive note, picking up an eagle on hole seven in the last round of competition. This score was good for 61st place.
Competing as an individual, Drew Dabbs shot 11-over in the first round and nine-over in the second round. Like several other Rangers, Dabbs had an exceptional last round of competition, shooting six-over with a birdie on holes two, seven, and thirteen.
The men will travel to Brookhaven to take part in the MACCC Championship on April 13th and April 14th. The championship will be played at The Club at Ole Brooke and is Northwest's first taste of postseason action.
