RAYMOND - The Northwest women's (6-6) and men's (7-5) tennis team grab vital 5-4 victories in the penultimate MACCC match of the season on Friday at Cleon McKnight Tennis Center in Raymond.  

The women's team took down #16 Hinds. With the Rangers being ranked #19, this victory marks the first time the Rangers have taken down an opponent that is ranked higher than them.  

After only winning one of the three doubles courts, NWCC was trailing going into the singles matches.  

The Rangers won four of the six singles courts to see out the ranked win. After losing the first set, Claudia Lopez Chaparro displayed her toughness by winning the next two sets to secure the three-set win. Brooke Kicker and Ava McCain played crucial roles earning dominant singles victories. Sophomore Meg Daves was able to clinch the match for Northwest in a nailbiter of a three-set match that saw Daves only give up one game in the last set.  

With an identical 5-4 scoreline to the women's match, the men also saw out an incredibly close MACCC over HCC.  

Going into the singles courts after winning two of the three doubles courts, the Rangers were feeling confident.  

The NWCC men were able to secure the victory with three singles wins of their own with Jordan Mitchell and Brady Holliman only dropping five games across their two singles matches. Miguel Lazaga Rabayna played a crucial role in winning the match, battling for the win in a close two-setter.
