Mariah Reed-Jones Signs with Jackson State University

SENATOBIA - Two-time Honorable Mention All-MACCC selection Mariah Reed-Jones made her four-year destination official on Monday afternoon, signing with Jackson State University.

Reed-Jones, a guard from Oxford, committed to JSU late in her sophomore season. She is the first member of the 2024-25 Lady Rangers' squad to sign with a four-year program, and the eighth since LaTaryl Williams took over the program ahead of the 2022-23 season.

"I am beyond grateful to continue my career at Jackson State," Reed-Jones said. "I know I made the right decision, because I was guided by God. Entering Northwest, I knew that Coach Williams and Coach Pimpton would prepare me for the next level. They always believed in me and pushed me to work harder every day. Not only are they my coaches, but they have also become my family."

"Northwest developed me in so many ways," she added. "This place is filled with so much love and support, and I will always be thankful for every moment here."

Reed-Jones had a strong sophomore campaign, averaging 13.0 points per game. She finished second on the team in various categories, including points per game, three-pointers made (19), assists (58) and steals (28).

For the season, Reed-Jones had 17 games in double figures, including a season-high of 29 points in an early season road loss at Holmes. She also scored 25 points in an overtime win against Mississippi Gulf Coast on Sophomore Night.

Reed-Jones departs Northwest with 606 career points and an average of 12.1 points per game. She also leaves with 115 career assists.

"When we recruited [Mariah], she had a goal to play at the Division I level after JUCO," Williams said. "Today, she has accomplished that goal and it's not by accident. Mariah improved each year at Northwest and I know that she will continue to improve at Jackson State. The Tigers are getting a proven scorer who can play multiple positions. She has a bright future at the next level, and I am proud and excited for her to fulfill her dreams."

Jackson State competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and are coming off a 16-15 overall record and a 13-5 mark in conference play.. The Tigers' season ended with a loss to Southern University in the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament. Two seasons ago, JSU won the SWAC and competed in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, falling to UConn in the opening round.

Former Lady Ranger Zaria Glover (2022-24) was a member of last season's JSU team, playing in 29 games off the bench.
