ELLISVILLE - For the third time in as many matches, the Northwest doubles tandem of
Gabriel Koonce and
Cole Stoddard recorded a win in the NJCAA Region 23 Championships, despite a 5-1 team loss to third-seeded Itawamba.
Koonce and Stoddard picked up an 8-5 win against the Indians' duo of Santiago Diaz and Ben Orr, accounting for the only win of the day for the Rangers. Although Northwest lost the other two doubles matches and three singles matchups,
Joshua Tedford did lead by a set at No. 5 singles when play was suspended.
With the loss, the Rangers dropped to 11-6 on the season and finished fourth overall in the postseason tournament. Northwest will await a probable postseason bid to the NJCAA Championships, which will begin later in May.
