ELLISVILLE - Highlighted by three singles victories from
Holden Cooke,
Cole Stoddard and
Joshua Tedford, the Northwest men's tennis team opened competition at the NJCAA Region 23 Championships with a 5-3 win against Copiah-Lincoln.
Stoddard, a freshman from Hernando, picked up a clean shutout of Simon Cooper at the No. 4 singles slot, while Tedford battled for a three-set win at No. 5 singles. Additionally, the Rangers won two of the three doubles matches, highlighted by an 8-4 win from Cooke and
Miguel Lazaga Robayna. Stoddard and
Gabriel Koonce also picked up an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
With the win, Northwest moved to 11-4 on the season, advancing to Friday's semifinal round against top-seeded Jones College. The Bobcats scored a 5-0 win against eighth-seeded Northeast.
