Rangers drop a nail bitter in home opener to Chattanooga State in five sets

Mathis ties career-high with 14 kills.

SENATOBIA - After a hard fought five set battle, Northwest Mississippi Community College (3-2) dropped their home opener to Chattanooga State Community College (1-1) on Monday evening at Howard Coliseum.

After winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-11, NWCC dropped the next two sets in nailbiting fashion, losing both 23-25. The team dropped the final set 9-15 as the Tigers completed the reverse sweep.

Aven Mathis led the Rangers in kills, tying her career-high with 14 all while hitting .323. Mathis was also a big threat from the service line, picking up five aces for 19 team points. Chloe Fesperman added eight and Adalyn Callahan picked up seven in a balanced team attack.

Dallas White and Chloe Rodriguez were able to dictate the Northwest offense, contributing 19 and 14 assists, respectively.

The team excelled once again in serving with 13 aces.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jania Rose shined, garnering 16 digs throughout the match. Ariana Woods contributed three assisted blocks to the Rangers' defensive efforts.

The team will be back in action on Monday, August 25 at 5 p.m. when they take on the Rust College Bearcats at Howard Coliseum.
