FULTON - The Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team (1-0) opened their season with a 3-1 victory over Calhoun Community College (0-1) at the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Tournament.
The Rangers won the first set 25-15 picking up 10 kills and had a .296 hitting percentage. They saw their hitting percentage drop to .122 and narrowly lost the second set 23-25. In set three, the Rangers had 12 kills and saw their hitting percentage rise to .225. The rise in hitting percentage resulted in a 25-19 set three victory for the Rangers. Although the team only had seven kills in the fourth set, NWCC saw a comprehensive victory taking the set 25-18 for a 3-1 match win.
Ariana Woods led the team with 11 kills. Chloe Fesperman added eight kills while Adalyn Callahan finished with seven.
The Rangers excelled from the service line hitting nine aces with freshman setter Dallas White leading the team with five. Northwest also saw their defense shine with six blocks. Daylin Johnson both had two solo blocks while Woods had two assisted blocks.
Freshman Chloe Rodriguez led the team in assists with 17 and White had 16.
Callahan showed her defensive prowess garnering a team leading 14 digs. Sailor Cole and Jania Rose finished with double-digit digs with 12 and 11 respectively.
The team will look to continue their strong start to the season with a match against Wallace State Community College at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
