Box Score PERKINSTON - Just when it seemed that 20th-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast was poised to take the No. 1 team in the nation to overtime on Friday, Northwest freshman Caroline Hamm had other ideas.

Hamm, a native of Saltillo and one of the team's two leading scorers, fielded a free kick that stemmed from a foul with 33 seconds left. From there, she fired the ball into the back of the net and past Lady Bulldogs' goalkeeper Laurel Conley, giving the Lady Rangers the game-winning score with 17 seconds remaining in regulation.

Hamm and freshman Emma Jensen now have seven goals each on the season, leading Northwest in scoring. Jensen, the native of Gammelby, Germany, recorded the game's first goal 20 minutes in, helping the Lady Rangers to a 1-0 halftime lead. Additionally, she provided the assist on Hamm's game-winner.

However, Mississippi Gulf Coast pressured Northwest throughout the second half and in the final two minutes of regulation, the Lady Bulldogs finally struck on Linda Mustered's shot in the 88th minute.

Northwest never stopped attacking though, helping set up the game-winning shot. The Lady Rangers finished the match with 27 total shots, including 19 on-goal. Meanwhile, Mississippi Gulf Coast fired off 10 shots, with only three connecting on-goal.

Anna Kathryn Harrell earned three saves and improved to 9-0-0 on the season. Conley finished with 14 stops for the Lady Bulldogs.

Caroline Chandler was hit with the game's only caution, which occurred in the 25th minute.

With the win, the Lady Rangers move to 9-0 and 4-0 inside MACCC competition. Northwest will step out of conference competition to host National Park College on Tuesday, October 1.
