HENDERSON, Tenn. - Aside from a close second set, Northwest had its way with Freed-Hardeman JV on Thursday evening, capping off a long road stretch with a 3-0 victory against the Lady Lions.
Northwest claimed the opening set, 25-19, but it was Freed-Hardeman JV that took an early 7-1 advantage to start the second set. However, the Lady Rangers stormed back quickly, regaining a 10-9 lead.
Though both teams traded blows in the second set, it was Northwest that gained the 25-23 edge and a 2-0 match lead. The Lady Rangers led for the entirety of the third set, clinching the match with a 25-15 decision.
Reigning MACCC Defensive Player of the Week
Kaya Coleman led Northwest in total blocks (4) and kills (8), while defending MACCC Offensive Player of the Week
Layla Dyer totaled 28 assists and 12 digs.Â
Freshman
Aven Mathis also had a solid performance for the Lady Rangers, posting seven kills, two blocks and a service ace.
Maddie Smith also finished with seven kills and seven digs, while
Abbey Swift led the team with two service aces.
With the win, Northwest claimed its fifth straight victory, improving to 9-6 overall. Meanwhile, Freed-Hardeman JV dropped to 1-5 on the season.
Northwest will return home to Howard Coliseum for the first time in nearly a month, hosting Coastal Alabama-South and Shawnee on Friday, September 20 at 3/5 P.M. Both matches will be carried on
